COUNTY SERVICES ONLINE
Finding out about the services provided by Sheboygan County can be important to area citizens and it can be helpful if you just want to learn and understand how your county government operates. A great source of information is Sheboygan County’s Web site. That site can be reached by going to: www.co.sheboygan.wi.us.
Here you will be provided a long list of sources on the left side of the screen including: meetings and ordinances, departments, County Board members, recycling, land records, officials, and much more. Just click on to the page you want and you are on the way.
If you click on the “Home” page, you will find a wide range of information including videos recorded by the Sheboygan Community Cable TV of past monthly meetings of the Sheboygan County Board. Presently, March, April and May meetings are available for review. These meetings run from about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours and can be very informative.
Besides votes on ordinances and resolutions, you will get an update from Adam Payne, county administrator, as well as department heads and other speakers on occasion. Because much of the work on ordinances and resolutions is done in committee, those watching the video may not fully understand what is being passed, amended, or rejected by the full board; occasionally I will intentionally ask a question, give a short explanation, or discuss an issue so viewers will gain an insight of the issue being voted on.
In the same location that provides the videos of the Sheboygan County Board is a listing for a series of Community Cable TV interviews conducted with Sheboygan County department heads. Adam Payne and Mike Vandersteen, County Board chairperson, conduct the interviews.
These interviews can be of great value because they will discuss the mission of that department, current issues, and provide the viewers an understanding on how that department works.
The Community Cable TV interviews have been an ongoing service for the past several years. The following is a listing of interviews
Ellen Schleicher, register of deeds; Jim Graf, child support director; Laura Henning-Lorenz, county treasurer, Charlene Cobb, veterans service officer; Anne Wondergem (recently retired), health and human services director; Mike Taubenheim, Rocky Knoll administrator; Tim Finch (recently moved to another job), finance director; Chuck Meyer, county airport manager; Mike Collard, human resource director; Nan Todd, clerk of circuit courts; and one program by Adam Payne, county administrator and Mike Vandersteen, County Board chairperson.
Interviews run 30 minutes.
Since Jan. 5, 2009, there have been 700 visits to the Sheboygan County Board meetings and department heads interviews sites. People are making use of the videos to find out what is happening on the county level. You can always use a computer at a public library if you don’t have one.
Of course, if you have questions or comments about your Sheboygan County Board or other issues, you should contact your own County Board supervisor. To find out whom that supervisor is, you can go to the Web site listed above and hit the “County Board” page. It will list all the names, addresses, telephone numbers and e-mails of each as well as provide a district map to ensure you get to the right supervisor.
You may also contact the Sheboygan County Clerk’s Office to obtain the information. That number is (920) 459-3003 or e-mail glancjm@co.sheboygan.wi.co.
