MAYWOOD EARTH RIDE
Registration materials are now available for the 10th annual Maywood Earth Ride to be held Sept. 19. The ride raises funds to support environmental programming at Maywood.
Materials are available online at www.GoMaywood.org, at the Maywood Ecology Center, 3615 Mueller Road, Sheboygan, and at many area businesses. A preregistration discount is available until Sept. 1.
This year’s event sponsor is Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The Earth Ride is a noncompetitive event offering five routes from 12 to 100 miles. Cyclists of all ages and abilities are encouraged to participate.
Riders enjoy a goodie bag, continental breakfast, lunch, rest stops stocked with food and beverages, full sag and maintenance support, and a chance to win door prizes plus a post-ride party with massage, music by the Beef Tea String Band, and a family fun area. The first 200 registered riders receive socks from Wigwam. Riders who participate in the optional fund raising also have the opportunity to earn a bicycle donated by Wolf’s Cycle and Fitness or other prizes.
Last year’s Earth Ride attracted 825 riders from throughout Wisconsin and raised over $32,500 for the Ellwood H. May Environmental Park. Since the ride began in 2000, over 5,500 people have participated.

Ellwood H. May Environmental Park, commonly known as Maywood, is committed to its mission of promoting environmental stewardship
through real-life experiences.
Sheboygan’s largest cityowned park includes an ecology center, hiking and cross-country ski trails, wildlife viewing areas, and a community-built arboretum and rain garden.
The park and its trails are open to the public year-round, free of charge. The park also offers programs for schools and the public, summer camps, aquatic studies and water monitoring, astronomy observation, bicycle tours, guided walks and canoe outings, a handson environmental lab, nature crafts, and outdoor workshops.
Support for Maywood comes from the city of Sheboygan, public grants, and The Environmental Park Trust of Sheboygan County through voluntary donations, bequests and annual fund drives.
