MOVIE NIGHT AT THE AVIATION HERITAGE CENTER FEATURING “THE BRIDGES AT TOKO-RI”

The Aviation Heritage Center of Sheboygan County will be showing the movie “The Bridges of Toko-Ri” (1955, not rated) at 7 p.m. Friday, July 10. (Check www.sheboyganaviation.com for details on upcoming events.)

“The Bridges of Toko-Ri” is an exciting war film detailing the heroism of U.S. Navy pilots during the Korean War. The film stars William Holden, Grace Kelly, Fredric March and Mickey Rooney.

A former World War II pilot is called back to serve in the Korean War leaving his wife and children behind. The mission is to bomb five heavily defended bridges that are of vital importance to the enemy.

The story is based on a James Michener novel, which was inspired while Michener was a correspondent in North Korea in 1952. The film emphasizes the lives of the pilots and crew in the context of a war that seemed remote to all except those fighting in it.

Experience a classic aviation film at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport with fellow aviation enthusiasts. Dan Miller, local aviation historian, will highlight some interesting facts prior to the start of the movie which will begin at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. to allow time to view the museum and possibly see some radio-controlled flying courtesy of the Sheboygan Area Radio Kontrol Society (SHARKS).

Guests are asked to bring their own chairs, blankets or sleeping bags to sit on for their comfort. Folding chairs are also available.

The movie will be shown on a 36-by-16-foot screen in the heated aviation laboratory for a true aviation experience. Admission is free. Freshly popped popcorn, candy and beverages will be available for purchase. Movies are generally shown on the second Friday of each month.
