CALVIN FREDERICK BOEDECKER

Calvin Frederick Boedecker, age 96, formerly of W3781 Garton Road, Sheboygan Falls, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 6, 2009, at Sunny Ridge Nursing Home in Sheboygan.

He was born April 4, 1913 in the town of Herman, son of the late Henry T. and Delia (Reineking) Boedecker. He attended Pinehurst Grade School, attended Plymouth High School and finished his education at the Mission House Academy in 1928.

On Aug. 22, 1936, he married Irene Roeder at Schwartzwald Church in the town of Herman.

He farmed on the family homestead from 1936 to 1973 when he left the farm and worked for the Franklin Feed Mill from 1973 to 1991, when he retired.

He was a member of Saron United Church of Christ, where he served the congregation as treasurer and also sang for over 60 years in the church choir.

He sang for the Sheboygan Barbershoppers, the Chorus of the Kettles, belonged to the Singing Grandpas singing tenor, a member of the SPEBSQSA for over 50 years, and traveled to Barbershop conventions and competitions for many years, traveling to every state including Hawaii, and parts of Canada.

In his free time he enjoyed, of course, singing tenor in various groups and choirs, enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk, loved nature, especially bird watching, gardening, and traveling with his wife; and in their worldly travels the couple even explored Europe.

He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Irene; three children: Eleanor (Harold) Herwig of Plymouth, Vernon (Sharon) Boedecker of the town of Sheboygan and Marvin (Susan) Boedecker of Plymouth; 11 grandchildren: Marguerite (David) Breisch, Kathleen (Todd) Walber, Charlotte Herwig, Elizabeth (Edward) Depies, Andrew (Kathy) Boedecker, Amanda Boedecker, Heather Boedecker, Ben (Kristin) Butzen, Nicole (Andrew) Akright, Jennifer (Joel) Propson and Mark (Polly) Boedecker; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Alfred (Shirley) Boedecker; and a sister-in-law, Sally Boedecker.

His parents and a brother, Frederick Boedecker, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, July 10, at Saron United Church of Christ in the town of Sheboygan Falls with the Rev. Kathryn Kuhn, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Saron United Church of Christ Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers of Pine Haven Christian Home, Countryside Manor, and Sunny Ridge Nursing Home for the wonderful care and concern they had shown Calvin during his stay.
