Falls seventh-graders Cadets win U-14

FOND DU LAC – The Sheboygan Falls Falcons seventhgrade cadet baseball team went 4- 0 to take championship honors in a recent U-14 tournament at Fond du Lac June 28-29.

Falls started the weekend with come-from-behind victories over Laconia 12-10 and Oakfield 11-6.

On Sunday, the Falcons faced No. 2 seed North Fond du Lac in the semifinal and blanked them 12-0 to advanced to the championship game.

Falls then broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the fifth inning to edge No. 1 seed Manitowoc 6-5.

“I’m very proud of these guys,” said coach Philip Klemme. “These guys won playing against primarily all eighth-grade teams.”

In the first game, the Falcons scored six runs in the sixth inning to overcome Laconia 12-10.

Two hours later, Falls pulled out another comeback. Trailing 5- 0 after four innings, the Falls squad battled back to secure the win.T

he Falcons used good pitching performances to shutout North Fondy and move on to the championship.

Manitowoc and Falls battled back and forth in the title game, but the Falcons were able to take the lead 5-3 in the third. Manitowoc responded with solo runs in the fourth and fifth to tie the game.

In the bottom of the inning, Falls retook the lead for good on the way to a 6-5 victory.

The Falcons (13-0) also have been unstoppable in recent Lakeshore Cadet League play, finishing the week of June 23, with seven victories in seven days.

Falls stopped Plymouth Orange 11-4 Tuesday, June 23, scoring nine unanswered runs in the last four innings.

On Thursday, Falls pounded Plymouth Black 21-5, scoring 10 runs in the fifth for a run-rule win.

The Falcons completed the week a little tired, after the big wins on Sunday, with a 15-5 route of Kiel.

The team had several players that also competed in a Badger State basketball game and the Hershey State track meet.

“It was quite a week for the seventh-grade team,” remarked Klemme.

The team has a tough road game with 10-0 Port Washington Friday, July 10, that will determine the seeding for the playoff tournament at Stan Struve Park in Plymouth, July 20-21.
