Four Riverdogs named all-stars

The Howards Grove Riverdogs have four players and the Plymouth Flames, two, on the Northern Division squad for Sunday’s Land O’ Lakes Baseball League all-star game.

Riverdogs’ all-stars include pitchers Nick Reschke and P.J. Weber, first baseman Peter Reschke and shortstop Charlie Reschke. The Reschkes are brothers.

Charlie Reschke and Port Washington’s Kyle Kichura tied in the managers’ voting for starting shortstop. The other Riverdog players were selected as reserves.

Veteran infielder Paul Gloede of the Flames was voted the starting second baseman for the division. Also named to the team was outfielder Evan Walsh as a reserve.

The Northern Division will play the West all-stars at 1:30 p.m. at Trenary Field in Menomonee Falls. Plymouth playermanager Rick Meyer was named a coach for the team. Joe Glynn of Cedarburg is the manager.

Gloede was batting an outstanding .400 in division play heading into this week. He had two RBIs and three runs scored in seven games.

Walsh is hitting .375 with three RBIs and six runs.

Weber and Nick Reschke are enjoying strong years on the mound. Weber has a 2.17 ERA, 2- 1 record and 21 strikeouts in 29 innings. Reschke, 2-0, boasts a 2.75 ERA with an impressive 36 strikeouts in only 19-2/3 innings.

Charlie Reschke ranks fifth in the division batting race with an outstanding .405 average. He has nine RBIs and 11 runs.

Peter Reschke is hitting at a .326 clip with two home runs, 11 RBIs and nine runs.

Walsh is also having a strong season – batting .375, including three doubles, with three RBIs, six runs and two stolen bases.

The North’s starting pitcher will be Port Washington’s Jon Deboer. Deboer, 4-1, is the ERA leader with a microscopic 1.67 and has 34 strikeouts in 32-1/3 innings while allowing just 20 hits.
