PHS competes at allstate swimming and diving

Plymouth High School is wellrepresented on the Wisconsin Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association’s all-state swimming and diving competition and academic teams.

Panther freshman Kate Criter earned all-state honors in the 100- yard breaststroke and 100 butterfly for the 2008 girls season. Criter was a Division 2 state champion in the breaststroke and finished second in the butterfly.

In Division 2, those competitors in the top three at the state meet receive all-state recognition and the 4-6 finishers are honorable mention all-state. Criter also earned honorable mention in the 50 freestyle, based on her best time last season.

Criter also received All- American status in the breaststroke from the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association.

is senior diver Kelsey McManus who is honorable mention. McManus placed sixth in the state meet.

The PHS boys squad has three all-staters, led by senior diver Mitchell Spaeth who took second in the Division 2 state meet this past season. Junior diver Zach Schroeder, who placed fifth at state, and junior Jesse Gambrell, a fifth-place finisher in the state 100 breaststroke, are honorable mention.

PHS girls swimming/diving team earned Academic All-American honors:

Emily Connor, Emily Hanson, Becca Lee, Margaret Loehrke, Britt Nygaard, Becky Paul, Kylie Peterson, Shannon Ryan, Katherine Rosploch, Maggie Smith, Megan Tervo and Breanna Wimmler.

All-American status is gained by a senior after seven semesters if the athlete has been in the sport for at least two years, lettered in her senior year, has a cumulative grade-point average of 3.75 or higher and her coach is a member of the NISCA.

The following PHS swim/dive athletes received all-state academic status: those athletes who earned All-American honors, McManus, Robert Peschke, Cassie Reilly and Spaeth. The all-state recognition is achieved the same way as All-American except that the GPA has to be 3.5 or higher and the athlete’s coach is a member of the WISCA.

PHS girls head coach Mike Slagle was honored by the WISCA for Outstanding Service for his work as the all-state banquet and awards chairperson.
