Tigers’ Dickmeyer blanks Lutheran again

HOWARDS GROVE – Eric Dickmeyer of Howards Grove has Sheboygan Lutheran/Kohler’s number this season.

Dickmeyer, a junior, shut out the Crusaders, 10-0, on only two hits in five innings (10-run rule) in game one of a doubleheader here Wednesday night. He no-hit Lutheran/ Kohler on June 19 as the Tigers won, 10-0.

The Crusaders won the nightcap of the Central Lakeshore Conference baseball twinbill, 9-5. The split left the Tigers with a 7-4 CLC record (9-7 overall) heading into Monday’s (July 6) key game at league leader Oostburg (7-3 in CLC).

Dickmeyer fanned 11 batters and walked none. He also carried a hot bat – going 3-for-3. Camryn Hurtienne tied Dickmeyer for the team lead in hits. Mike Verfuerth, Marty Moenning and Hurtienne led in RBIs with two each.

GAME TWO

In game two, the Crusaders jumped out to a 6-1 lead after just three innings. Two-run singles by Jake Kanz and Ryan Stefanczyk keyed the outburst.

The Crusaders led in hits, 9-5. Stefanczyk, Kanz and Sam Dekker had a team-high two hits each for the visitors.

Howards managed just five hits off winning hurler Dan Salzbrenner. Salzbrenner gave up three earned runs and six walks while striking out two.

Verfuerth paced Howards in hits with a pair. Hurtienne had a team-high two RBIs.

Starter Ashton Holzman took the loss – allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits with three walks and no strikeouts in 2-1/3 frames.
