Historical center announces genealogy class

The Sheboygan County Historical Research Center has announced its August genealogy class “Citing Sources and Why It’s Important to do so.”

Monday, Aug. 10, local history expert and researcher Mary Risseeuw will teach an introductory course in the use of these common research tools. This class will be held at the Sheboygan County Historical Research Center, 518 Water St., Sheboygan Falls. Time for the class is 1-3 p.m.

Many factors combine to create “quality” in genealogy. But there is only one so obvious, so fundamental, that quality is never possible without it: proper source citations. One may know a set of records better than anyone else in existence; but if the material extracted is not identified in a manner that permits others to easily relocate the document used, then the information is suspect. Neither one’s knowledge nor one’s skill is trusted. Learn about what to record and how to properly record it.

Call (920) 467-4667 to register. There is a charge for the class.
