Sheboygan County will receive delayed state funding for hazardous waste

The Sheboygan County Planning and Resources Department was notified July 28 that partial funding has been restored to help fund hazardous waste and waste medication programs.

The county had originally been awarded grants totaling approximately $28,000 for these programs, but the money was withdrawn in Gov. Jim Doyle’s proposed state budget. The Legislature, however, placed money back into the hazardous waste grant program budget but at a reduced amount.

Thanks to a $16,687.50 modified grant award that will be received by the end of 2009, the county will be able to sponsor another hazardous waste collection day for 2009. The collection will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Plymouth Municipal Garage, located at 1004 Valley Road. Collection hours will be from 8-11 a.m.T

hanks to a substantial hazardous waste budget authorized by the Sheboygan County Board of Supervisors and another potential grant award, there will be several hazardous waste collection events in 2010. Information will be posted on the county’s Web site as the end of the year approaches. Residents may also call the Planning and Resources Department at (920) 459-3060 for more information.

Ongoing waste medication collection and disposal efforts in Sheboygan County will also benefit from a separate $3,250 grant award. The county should receive this funding by the end of the year. This will help fund the permanent waste medication drop-off box located in the city of Sheboygan Police Department at 1315 N. 23rd St.

There will also be another countywide waste medication collection day held Saturday, Oct. 3. There will be one-day collection stations under law enforcement supervision in communities throughout Sheboygan County during the morning hours of Oct. 3 and for much of the day at the Crime Stoppers Fair in the Sheboygan Falls Municipal Building.

For more details on the Oct. 3 waste medication collection project, consult the county Web site near the end of September or watch for further notice in the newspapers. Citizens may also call the Planning and Resources Department at (920) 459-3060.

Both the hazardous waste and waste medication collection programs are for residents of Sheboygan County only.
