THOMAS W. ZUM MALLEN

Thomas W. ZumMallen, age 82, of 2126 N. 27th Place, Sheboygan, died at the Wisconsin Heart Hospital in Wauwatosa, on Friday, June 26, 2009.

Thomas was born on June 5, 1927, in Sheboygan Falls, Wis., to the late William and Kathleen Hill ZumMallen. Due to his mother's death during childbirth and his father's death when he was 2, he was raised by his maternal grandparents, Charles and Jessie Hill, until the age of 14 when his grandmother passed away. He then went to live with his aunt and uncle, Alice and John Putz. Tom received his diploma from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1945. He entered the Navy in 1945 and served for 3½ years.

On Sept. 10, 1949, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathryn Kalmerton. They lived in Sheboygan Falls until 1967 when they moved to Elkhart Lake, Wis. In 1996, they moved to Sheboygan.

Tom worked for Wisconsin Power & Light in Sheboygan and then Wisconsin Electric Company in Milwaukee, West Bend and Elkhart Lake as a lineman and troubleman.

Tom was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Sheboygan Falls, Elkhart Lake Community UCC and Zion UCC in Sheboygan.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Kathryn, and four loving children, Kathy Kreisa of Stevens Point, Karen (Terry) Lindow of Sheboygan, Mary (Randy) Meyer of Medina, Ohio, and William (Sandy) ZumMallen of Merton, Wis. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Abigail and Meredith Kreisa, Tom (Kam) Lindow, Elizabeth Lindow (Kary) Valley, Zachary and Samuel Meyer, Ryan (Samantha) ZumMallen and Jacob ZumMallen.

Tom loved playing cards, reading and vacationing in St. Germain, Wis. After retirement, Tom and Kathryn bought a condo in Phoenix, Ariz., where they spent time during the winters. One of Tom's greatest joys was being with his family.

According to Tom's wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family service will be held after cremation.

A memorial fund will be established in his name, benefiting the American Diabetes Association. Tom was a devoted husband, loving father and wonderful grandfather.
