Airport project gets state funding
Gov. Jim Doyle has approved a $1,642,000 project to provide engineering services, utility installations and paving work at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport.
The action releases $1,313,600 in state funds to pave taxiways, an access road, a parking lot and apron for the development of a north terminal area. Sheboygan County is contributing $328,400 to the project.
According to Kim Kaarto, airport engineering specialist with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, the project will plan the development of the north terminal area on the airport. It will also include electric, gas and phone utilities for this area.
Preliminary construction is scheduled to begin in August and should be completed this fall. There are 115 aircraft based at the Sheboygan County Memorial Airport, and approximately 55,000 take-offs and landings each year.
