NORMA H.C. (SIMONSMEIER) PRUETER

Norma H.C. (Simonsmeier) Prueter, age 98, formerly of Kiel, died on July 30, 2009, at Pine Haven Christian Nursing Home, Sheboygan Falls.

She was born May 28, 1911, in the town of Herman, the oldest of four children of Arthur and Lena (Klopf) Simonsmeier.

She attended Victory School in the town of Rhine and was confirmed at Zoar Church in 1926.

On Nov. 10, 1934, Norma married Edward Prueter at the parsonage of Community UCC, Elkhart Lake. Ed preceded her in death on July 13, 2006.

They farmed on Eddie’s home farm in the town of Meeme until the big hailstorm of 1967 when they moved to Kiel.

Norma was a member of St. John’s UCC (Schwarzwald), and was a charter member of the Women’s Guild.

She enjoyed baking, crocheting, and embroidery work. She was a member of many card clubs over the years. She loved to spend time with her great-grandchildren, and enjoyed teaching them to play Sheepshead.

Norma is survived by her only son, Donald (Karen) Prueter of Mountain, Wis.; one granddaughter, Lavonne (Nathan) Athorp of town of Mosel; one grandson, Douglas (Colleen) Prueter of Mason, Wis.; and four great-grandchildren, Justin and Sara Athorp, and Dylan and Riley Prueter. Norma is further survived by her sister, Nelda Winkel, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence Kuhfuss and Hilma Wagner; and brothers-in-law, Theodore Winkel, Harold Kuhfuss, and Arvin Wagner.

The funeral service was held Monday, Aug. 3, at St. John’s UCC (Schwarzwald), in Elkhart Lake, with the Rev. Mark E. Jaberg, officiating. Those attending the visitation or service were invited to wear red, which was her favorite color.

Burial took place in Schleswig Cemetery, town of Schleswig, Rockville. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
