Leaky defense plagues Riverdogs

HOWARDS GROVE – Shoddy defense plagued the Howards Grove Riverdogs in Wednesday night’s 9- 5 setback against the Kewaskum A’s in nonleague baseball at Memorial Park.

The Riverdogs, 11-11, committed a season-high eight errors. Howards led 5-3 five innings but the A’s rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh with the help of four Riverdog errors.

“Our performance tonight was dismal on defense,” said Riverdog player-manager P.J. Weber.

“We just looked flat and lacked enthusiasm it seemed.”

Weber was the starting and losing pitcher but allowed only one earned in seven innings. He gave up nine runs on 10 hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Marcus Rumpff pitched two scoreless innings in relief and struck out two.

Peter Reschke keyed the Riverdogs’ offense with four hits, including a double, and two RBIs.
