SFHS Booster Club seeks new members
by Steve Ottman Falls News Correspondent
The Sheboygan Falls High School Athletic Booster Club (SFBC) is presently seeking new members.
Through the efforts of the SFBC, all of the proceeds from its various events are returned to the SFHS athletic programs.
Those dollars are used to provide scholarships, facility improvements, trainers and financial support to the athletic programs.
In many cases there is a benefit to all of the students at SFHS, as well as the community, through various facility improvements.
Members include anyone who desires to support athletic activities at SFHS. One of the things that make the SFBC unique is that it serves as one club across all athletic programs at SFHS.
This is a simpler way for everyone to coordinate and be more efficient in supporting the athletic programs.
The Booster Club operates under a set of by-laws with open elections held annually to elect officers.
Meetings are held on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the high school cafeteria (room location subject to change).
SFBC needs your help by joining SFBC, coming to monthly meetings and volunteering to help selling tickets or serving concessions at an athletic event.
Involvement with SFBC allows supports to enjoy a few hours with other parents in a stress free, relaxing environment.
It also offers members a good opportunity to meet other SFHS athletic program supporters.
Purple annual memberships are available for $5 and gold annual memberships are $10.
A gold membership includes three free passes to any Falcons home event, so a $10 investment actually costs $1, as the free passes are a $9 value.
Memberships are available at the SFHS office, any SFHS sporting event or through a Booster Club board member.
Booster Club board members are Dave DePagter (president), Scott Bender (vice president), Debbie Peterson (secretary) and Karl Meyer (treasurer).
The achievements of the Booster Club over the 20 plus years are significant. Booster Club-supported gifts to SFHS have averaged about $25,000 per year.
Gifts recently helped purchase a 20-foot trap chute for the football teams. The Sheboygan Falls United Football League also supported the purchase.
Portable bleachers were purchased for the tennis courts. A portable defibrillator was purchased for use by Aurora medical staff for all sporting events. A pool-timing clock was bought and will be used at Kohler by the TRIAD swim team.
New record boards for team achievements at regional, sectional and state events will be placed in the high school gymnasium. A new record board for track records was purchased.
Funds will be used for annual scholarships, athletic trainers at sporting events, assisting with general funds to supplement the athletic budget and the Sheboygan Falls United Football League.
Three individual scholarships were provided to 2009 SFHS graduates Eric Kluz, Ashlyn Mauer and Ashley Bender.
SFBC would like to thank everyone, especially local businesses, willing to help out when asked. Booster Club Night, during which the 2009 SFHS football teams will be introduced, is Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
