PLYMOUTH – Randy Markwardt of Sheboygan rode the cushion to victory in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing’s 25-lap Late Model A-main Saturday night.

Brad Dahmer, Sheboygan Falls, won the 25-lap Grand National A-main with a late pass, Jason Johnson dominated in the Sprint car feature while Tim Simon, Fond du Lac, returned to victory lane in the Outlaw Compact Division.

Markwardt, after starting in the third row, went to the outside early in the race and found it was working well. He was in a three-way battle early with Brad Mueller (Random Lake) and later Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls).

Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) took the lead from the pole and built a big lead early but a pair of yellow flags bunched the field. Markwardt and Mueller ran side-by-side for a number of laps midway through the race before Markwartd established himself in second place.

After a lap-15 restart, the field was tight and on lap 19 three cars were side-by-side at the front and it was Markwardt who came out ahead. After that, he was on his way to his first A-main win of the season.

Mueller would then move into second with Schmidt third. Schueffner held off Kyle Odekirk (Waldo) for fourth to round out the top five.

Joe Schmidt (Kiel) won the first heat race holding off Jeff Fechter (West Bend). Mueller won the second heat passing Odekirk on lap six. The third heat race went to Schmidt after he passed Schueffner on the second lap.

Dahmer won his second A-main of the season by passing Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls) on the 24th lap. Glander, who started on the pole, set the pace with Dahmer and Tim Thompson (Campbellsport) right behind.

The race was stopped after one lap when a car stopped on the front stretch. Back under the green, the field stayed tight and on lap five three cars were running side-by-side into turn one when the cars of Brad Lubach (Elkhart Lake) and Rick Hed (Sheboygan Falls) became hooked together and stopped in turn two.

Lubach's car was finished and Hed's car went to the pits that sent him to the back of the field on the restart. It appeared Glander would not be passed but Dahmer went to the outside and completed his pass to get the win.

Glander finished second, Thompson third, points leader Loren Lubach (Sheboygan) was fourth ahead of Jestin Danes (New Holstein).

The 12-lap B-main was won by Mark Scholten (Sheboygan Falls) who led every lap. Also transferring were Scott Schwarz (Chilton), Matt Yancey (Sheboygan Falls) and Tim Anderson (Sheboygan).

Heat race winners were, Glander, Dahmer, Thompson and Mark Fieber (Cascade.

Johnson's Sprint car win was his third of the season. He went to the outside of the track early and passed Lance Fassbender (Burnett) for the lead on lap four.

The race stayed green and Johnson built a nice lead which he would need as Jim Melis (Glenbuelah) also took the high line early stayed fairly close.

Fassbender stayed in third and was chased to the finish by Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan Falls) who started ninth, Tony Wondra (Campbellsport) finished fifth in a race that was completed in just over 6½ minutes.

The 15-lap B-main was a hard- fought race with the top six transferring. Shane Wenninger (Kewaskum) passed Brian Johnson (Kewaskum) on the 10th lap and stayed in front. The race stayed tight as two caution flags kept the field bunched together.

Heat race winners were, Tony Wondra, Ben Schmidt (Plymouth) Scott Conger (Eagle) and Jason Johnson.

Simon (Fond du Lac) won his sixth A-main of the season after taking the lead on the seventh lap. Cole Fenske (Cascade) was second in a very close battle with J.J. Pagel (St. Cloud) Justin Green (Sheboygan Falls) and Dean Kulow (Plymouth).

Heat winners were Glen Blanke (Sheboygan Falls) Shawn Goetsch (Sheboygan) and Simon. More results are available at: www.plymouthdtr.com. (George’s Corner) Racing continues Saturday with opening ceremonies at 6 p.m. and racing to follow.
