ANTHONY C. “TONY” HEINZEN

Anthony C. “Tony” Heinzen, age 90, of 835 Torke Terrace, Plymouth, passed away early Sunday evening, Aug. 2, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Sheboygan Memorial Medical Center where he had been a patient for the last four days.

He was born on Dec. 11, 1918, in Wausau, Wis., a son of the late Anton and Anna Ronk Heinzen.

Tony attended Wausau grade schools and graduated from Wausau High School. He also graduated from Notre Dame in 1941 with a degree in engineering and business.

He served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II and served in the American Theatre, Greenland, NewFoundland and Puerto Rico, and also served in the United States Navel Reserve during the Korean War.

On Oct. 18, 1941, he married Dora Weiss in Merrill, Wis. The couple resided in Merrill, West Allis and Wausau and in 1959 moved to Plymouth.

Tony worked for Marmet Company in Wausau for several years, Plyco Company in Elkhart Lake and Mid Continent Screw Company in Chicago, retiring in 1988.

Dora preceded him in death on Oct. 21, 1994.

He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth and served on the finance committee in the church.

He was a member of Ladwig Zingraf American Legion Post 243 of Plymouth and golfed in the Monday morning golf league at Quit Qui Oc Golf Course in Elkhart Lake and was a member of Notre Dame Club of Wisconsin.

He enjoyed flyfishing, golf and spending time at his cottage in Armstrong Creek and wintering in Orange Beach, Ala.

Survivors include his loving daughters, Kathy (Walter) Vogel of Crystal Lake and Hoffman Estates, Ill., Ann (Konrad) Kaczkowski of Plymouth, and Barbara (Tim) Mabie of Sacramento, Calif.; his very loving companion of 12 years, Verna VanderWall of Traverse City, Mich., and her family, Mike and Rita, Amy and Frank, Donald and Eva, and John and their extended families; four grandsons, Chris (Julie) Gentine of Plymouth, Tony (Beckie) Kaczkowski of Waukesha, Matt Kaczkowski of Plymouth, Pat Mabie of Sacramento, Calif., (special friend, Lisa); four great-grandchildren, Sophie and Saunders Gentine, Ellie and Evvie Kaczkowski; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Maley of St. Paul, Minn. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Molly; four sisters and three brothers.

A memorial Mass will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, Aug. 7 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth. The Very Rev. Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church will officiate. Entombment will be in the Garden of Peace Mausoleum at Greenlawn Cemetery in the town of Sheboygan.

Friends may call at the church on Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of services. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for the “Angel Fund” at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or the Camo Quilt Project.

The Ladwig Zingraf American Legion Post 243 will conduct military rites at the church following the services.
