JOSEPH ANTHONY SHAUDVITIS

Joseph Anthony Shaudvitis, age 90, of W8211 Woodside Road, Plymouth, Wis., passed away early Tuesday morning, Aug. 4, 2009, at Arbor View Manor in Plymouth where he had been a resident for the past three weeks.

Joseph was born on Dec. 11, 1918 in Chicago, Ill., a son of the late Stanley and Elizabeth Zemencius Shaudvitis.

In 1927, Joe’s father bought a farm on the west side of Long Lake. Joe, his mother, his sister Suzan and his brother Leonard worked on the farm. His father held his job with Chicago Edison Power Company through the Depression and would visit when he could. As a boy, Joe enjoyed fishing, swimming hunting and hiking on the area lakes with his brother and sister.

He attended Armstrong Elementary School.

In 1958, the farm was sold and Joe took a job at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee, spending the next 20 years carpooling to work with co-workers from the area. He was a dedicated worker on the auto truck frame line.

On May 25, 1963 Joe married Mary Ann Werbeckes in West Bend, Wis.

The couple moved to a rural home east of Long Lake along with Mary Ann’s children.

Both being of Lithuanian descent, their passion for gardening, fishing, hunting and music flourished. Family and friends enjoyed the bounty of their large garden and their talents at processing it. They also enjoyed fireman’s picnics, fishing trips and snowmobiling.

His wife preceded him in death on Oct. 4, 2001, after 38 years of marriage.

He was a member of the Dundee Sportsman Club and the Parnell Moonshiners Snowmobile Club.

Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Darlene (Leonard) Shaudvitis, Fond du Lac, Wis., Genevieve Werbeckes Dreiling of Sheboygan; one niece, Diane (Paul) Shafer of Amery, Wis., and their five daughters; two nephews, Lonnie Shaudvitis of Fond du Lac and Rick (Jodi) Shaudvitis of Fond du Lac and children Josh, Jamie, and Jesse.

He is further survived by members of his extended family, Theodore Nytes of Plymouth and his children, Kelly (Dave) Kastelic of Plymouth and Kevin Nytes of Colorado; Carol Tagel of Plymouth and her sons, Trevor (Becky) Tagel and children Trenton and Brianah, Jason (Jody) Tagel and child Jayden of Sheboygan; Constance (Samsal) Schwochert and her sons Dennis (Suzette) Radloff of Oconomowoc; Seth Schwochert of Sheboygan, Tyler (Tammy) Schwochert and their two girls of Kiel and friend Mark Schwochert of Plymouth; Reed Samsal and his son Wesley Samsal, both of Sheboygan.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Suzan (John) Flaush; brother, Leonard; brothers-in-law, William Werbeckes, Albert Werbeckes and Michael Dreiling; and sisters-in-law, Julie Seider and Ann Pfrang. He was also preceded in death by members of his extended family Marylyn Tagle Nytes and her son Todd Nytes and Terrance (Terry) Tagel and infant child Chad Radloff.

Friends may visit and share memories of Joe at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6. Cremation has taken place.
