Regents freeze 2009-10 tuition for UW-Sheboygan

The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents approved an annual operating budget and set tuition rates for the 2009-10 academic year at its July meeting in Madison.

UW System President Kevin P. Reilly’s budget will freeze tuition for the third consecutive year for 12,735 resident students enrolled at 13 freshman-sophomore UW Colleges' campuses including UWSheboygan.

“Maintaining tuition at 2006 rates for the 2009-10 academic year means that the UW Colleges will continue to be the most affordable access point for anyone who wants to start, continue or complete a degree,” said UW Colleges and UW-Extension Chancellor David Wilson, who has spearheaded the push to keep the UW Colleges affordable, especially in these challenging economic times.

With this tuition freeze, UW-Sheboygan will maintain its long-held reputation as an affordable choice for incoming students of all ages who can then complete a baccalaureate degree at UW-Sheboygan or at any four-year UW campus.

The full-time tuition at UW-Sheboygan will remain at $4,268 for 2009-10.

This is approximately $1,100 less than the four-year comprehensive campuses, $2,600 less than at UWMilwaukee and $3,000 less than the tuition at UW-Madison. Also, students at UW-Sheboygan are allowed to take additional credits above 12 (up to 18 credits) at no extra cost.

In addition to a low tuition rate, UW-Sheboygan also offers a low student fee. Segregated fees, which all students must pay in addition to tuition costs, cover activities and programs available to all students on the campus. For the 2009-10 academic year, UW-Sheboygan student fees will be $275 for the year (the same rate as 2008-09), compared to $1,014 at UW-Madison and $1,250 at UW-Green Bay. Mandatory fees for services and activities at the major four-year universities will increase by an average of $51, or 5.8 percent, for the coming academic year.

“The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan has been serving students at its current location for 45 years. As the local point of access to the UW System, the UW-Sheboygan campus provides affordable tuition and highly qualified faculty,” said Dr. Al Hardersen, UW-Sheboygan dean and CEO.

“The cost of tuition for a full-time student at private colleges begins at approximately $20,000 per year, including local institutions. Tuition at UW-Sheboygan will remain at $4,268 per year, which is the same rate it was in 2006. Whether you are a recent high school graduate or returning adult learner, there may be financial aid available to cover all or part of the costs at UW-S.”

UW-Sheboygan is still accepting applications for the fall semester. Fall 2009 classes start Sept. 2. Contact the Student Services Office at (920) 459-6633 or visit www.sheboygan.uwc.edu for more information.
