St. Nicholas Hospital receives reaccreditation in rehabilitation service
The St. Nicholas Hospital Comprehensive Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit has been reaccredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for a period of three years.
The Comprehensive Rehabilitation Inpatient Unit at St. Nicholas Hospital offers an interdisciplinary approach to restoring living skills, helping patients achieve their highest level of safety and independence, and delivering care in a complete range of services which treat the whole person – body, mind, and spirit.
“St. Nicholas Hospital has the only CARF-accredited inpatient rehabilitation unit in Sheboygan County so patients can return back to the community for intensive rehabilitation care close to family and friends,” said Mark Hillesheim, director, rehabilitation services.
This accreditation decision represents the highest level of accreditation that can be awarded to an organization and shows the organization’s substantial conformance to the CARF standards. An organization receiving a three-year accreditation has put itself through a rigorous peer review process and has demonstrated to a team of surveyors during an onsite visit that its programs and services are of the highest quality, measurable, and accountable.
“I am very proud of the team here at St. Nicholas Hospital that put a lot of hard work into making the survey successful,” said Michele Oostdyk, assistant administrator, patient-care services. “It shows the dedication the team has to providing the highest level of quality care to the patients of our community. This level of service is not available anywhere else in Sheboygan County. We want to showcase what we have to offer here.”
CARF is an independent, nonprofit accrediting body whose mission is to promote the quality, value, and optimal outcomes of services through a consultative accreditation process that centers on enhancing the lives of the persons served. Founded in 1966 as the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, and now known as CARF, the accrediting body establishes consumer-focused standards to help organizations measure and improve the quality of their programs and services.
