PLYMOUTH – With four laps remaining in Plymouth Dirt Track Racing’s 25-lap Late Model A-main Saturday night, rain started falling and the race program was over.
Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) was the winner – getting his 25th career A-main win with PDTR.
Tim Thompson (Campbellsport) won the 35-Lap Grand National A-main, T.J. Luedke (Plymouth) won the Sprint car feature, and the Outlaw Compact feature was not started due to the weather.
Thompson, who started fifth, moved in behind race leader Jestin Danes (New Holstein) on the fifth lap and made his winning pass on lap 20. The race's only caution flag waved when Cliff Annis (Glenbeulah) spun in turn one on lap 27.
In the early going, the field stayed close behind the leaders with Matt Yancey (Sheboygan), Brian Gilles (Plymouth) and Jason Roe (Sheboygan) pacing the pack behind the leaders.
As the laps passed, the drivers raced side-by-side frequently and several times there was three-wide racing. In the end it would be Thompson taking the checkers with Danes right behind, Gilles third, Loren Lubach (Sheboygan) fourth and Mark Fieber (Cascade) in fifth.
The 12-lap B-main was won by Timm Anderson (Sheboygan) who inherited the lead when the car of race leader Dick Hed (Sheboygan Falls) developed engine problems.
Paul Perronne (Plymouth), Tyler Kulow) (New Holstein) and Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls) also transferred to the feature event.
Heat race winners were Danes, Brad Lubach and Roe.
Luedke had to come from the sixth row to notch his third A-main win of the season. Lance Thompson (Campbellsport) paced the first 10 laps before Shane Wenninger (Kewaskum) passed him on the outside.
Luedke would be third by lap 13 and two laps later he passed Wenninger on the inside for the lead. Several caution flags mid-race kept the field tight and Robbie Pribnow (Mayville), after starting13th, was able to get to third by lap 16.
On lap 20, Pribnow moved into second but could not catch Luedke. Wenninger finished third, Wayne Modjeski (Oak Creek) fourth and Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan
The 15-lap B-main was won by Jason Johnson (Allenton). Heat race winners were Scotty Thiel (Sheboygan), Luedke, Josh Walter (Plymouth) and Troy Wondra (Lomira).
Bill Rezutek (Big Bend) led the Late Model A-main for the first 11 laps. Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) was a close second with Brad Mueller (Random Lake) third.
Russ Scheffler then raced Mueller and Jim Schmidt (Cleveland) hard for a number of laps before Schmidt's car pulled out with an engine problem.
Scheffler then passed Craig Schueffner ( Sheboygan Falls) for second on lap 12 and Rezutek for the lead a lap later after they got caught behind a lapped car.
Schueffner finished second ahead of Mueller, Turk Letizia (Milw.) and Rezutek.
Heat race winners were Rick Scheffler (Waukesha), Randy Markwardt ( Sheboygan) and Tim Buhler (Glenbuelah)
Outlaw Compact heat race winners were Jake Meyer (Plymouth) Tim Simon (Fond du Lac) and J.J. Pagel (St. Cloud).
