Potent attack sparks Riverdogs

A 14-hit attack fueled the Howards Grove Riverdogs’ 10-3 drubbing of host Grafton Saturday afternoon.

Ben Stanczyk and Andy Taft ignited the Riverdogs’ offense with three hits each. P.J. Weber went eight innings to earn the win as he gave up three earned runs on eight hits with two walks and strikeouts each.

Weber and Justin Poirier added two hits apiece for Howards.

The victory upped Howards’ Northern Division record in the Land O’ Lakes Baseball League to 10-7 (13-13 overall).

“We did really well and played excellent defense,” Weber said.

The Riverdogs pounded the West Bend Benders, 12-0, in a makeup LOL game Wednesday night at Howards. A five-run second sparked the Riverdogs.

Taft swung the big bat for Howards with a team-high four hits, including two doubles. Nick Reschke contributed three hits, followed by Weber, Jesse Winger and Peter Reschke with two each.

Nick Reschke and Winger led the Riverdogs in RBIs with three apiece. Winger also belted a home run.

“This was a game we needed to get back on track,” said player-manager Weber whose team broke a four-losing streak.

Ryan Shaw earned the victory – pitching four scoreless innings and allowing just one hit. He walked three and fanned two. Brian Binversie finished up with two scoreless frames.
