Go Green: Give Blood for the 4-H Aug. 27

The Sheboygan County 4-H is asking community donors to “Go Green, Give Blood” from 12:30-5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, at the Sheboygan Donor Center, 1018 S. Taylor Drive (at New Jersey Avenue).

Donors interested in giving should sign up by calling 459-5900 or online at www.bcw.edu/ 4HBloodDrive.

The Sheboygan County 4-H program is known for its service to the community, but now members, parents and volunteers are giving back like never before … with their blood. All donors giving blood during the 4-H Blood Drive will receive a complimentary day pass and parking to the Sheboygan County Fair.

“Giving blood is one of those simple things that even young people can do to serve their community,” said Sarah Tarjeson, 4-H educator. “Our volunteers have always stepped up to address the needs of our communities, county and families.”

The Sheboygan County 4-H program hopes to encourage the community, 4-H parents, families and leaders to help support the Blood Center of Wisconsin before Labor Day when donations typically decline. Many people will not donate unless they are asked; please consider recruiting others to participate in this blood drive.

While other organizations collect blood in the area, BloodCenter of Wisconsin, a not-for-profit organization, provides without exception all blood and blood products used at St. Nicholas Hospital, Aurora HealthCare, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, and more than 50 Wisconsin medical centers throughout the state.

To ensure a great donation, donors should drink plenty of water, have a snack before giving, and don’t forget your picture ID – it’s required.

Almost anyone can donate blood. Basic requirements for donating include being at least 17 years old (16-year-olds with parental consent), weighing at least 110 pounds, and in general good health.

It takes less than an hour to donate a pint of whole blood, and with one donation, you can save up to three lives.
