MANITOWOC – With the highest car count so far this year, race fans were treated to some great Eastern Wisconsin Stock Cars racing action here Friday night.
The late Happy Laack of Plymouth, one of the founding members of the EWSC, was remembered as it was Happy Laack Memorial night. Laack was an integral part of the EWSC for many years.
In the 360 MSA Sprint Car 30-lap A-Main, T.J. Luedke of Plymouth jumped out to the lead and led the entire race through several cautions and red flags.
Brian Kistan (Zion, Ill.) finished second and Lance Fassbender (Burnett) was third. Scott Thiel of Sheboygan placed fourth, followed by Sheboygan Falls’ Terry Marten.
The Sprint Car B-Main went flag to flag with Ben Schmidt leading the entire race.
Gordie Seegert Jr. of Oostburg captured first in the 25-lap Late Model feature event. The next four finishers, in order, were Randy Markwardt of Sheboygan; Craig Schueffner, Falls; Rick Scheffler, Oconomowoc; and Tim Buhler of Glenbeulah.
Scheffler won the Late Model B-Main race.
Brian Gilles of Plymouth earned first in the 20-lap Krajnik Chevrolet Grand National feature. Ben Stumpf (Brillion) took second, followed by Chad Ninmer (Cleveland), Scott Houpt (Belgium) and Jason Winkler (New Holstein, respectively.
The Hobby Stocks ran twin 15- lap features in honor of 50 years of EWSC racing. The overall winner was determined by who had the best average finish of the combined races.
Greg Herrmann (Whitelaw) won the first twin feature. Sheboygan’s Ryan Minster and Jeff Leonhard were fourth and fifth, respectively.
After inverting all the cars on the lead lap from the first feature, the lineup was set for the second Hobby Stock feature. Adam Krepline (Manitowoc) finished first. Leonhard was third and Elkhart Lake’s Bradley Ruh placed fourth.
After averaging the final finishes of both 15-lap features, the overall top five finishers were Krepline, Kyle Resch (Manitowoc), Herrmann, Leonhard and Kraig Koehler (Francis Creek), respectively.
Join the EWSC Friday for Back to School Night and Autograph Night. Kids will receive back-to-school items and then can stop in the pits after the races to get their favorite drivers’ autograph. Racing will start at 7 p.m.
