Plymouth’s Meyer cruises to victory

PLYMOUTH – Jason Johnson won his fourth Sprint A-main of the season Saturday night to stay close in the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing’s points race.
Bret Sievert notched his first Late Model win of the season, Brad Dahmer of Sheboygan Falls visited victory lane in the Grand National division for the third time this season. Plymouth’s Jake Meyer won the extended Outlaw Compact A-main – his third victory of the season.
Johnson (Allenton) trailed Troy Wondra (Lomira) by just three points entering the night and despite winning the feature, now trails by five points. Wondra won his heat and finished right behind Johnson in the A-main to gain two points.
Johnson, after starting on the pole, led every lap, while Wondra started sixth and quickly moved to second. Lance Fassbender (Burnett) finished third after starting 19th and returned to his championship form of a year ago.
T.J. Luedke (Plymouth) finished fourth and Ken Jay Fiedler (Sheboygan Falls) fifth. The race was stopped several times, including twice for red flags.
Paul Pokorski (West Bend) won the B-main and set a new track record in the process. Heat race winners were Luedke, Wayne Modjeski (Oak Creek) and Troy Wondra.
Sievert (Mukwonago) started outside of the front row and was in front on the first lap. Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) started on the pole and stayed close to Sievert the entire race. Schueffner's solid finish padded his points lead.
Charlie Schmidt (Oostburg) finished third while sliding sideways across the finish line. Brad Mueller (Random Lake) finished fourth after starting ninth and Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) came from the sixth row to finish fifth.
After the race, Sievert stopped in front of the grandstand and presented his first-place trophy and checkered flag to several youngsters.
The B-main was won by Joe Schmidt (Kiel) who also raced in the Grand National Division. Heat races were won by Tim Buhler (Glenbuelah), Russ Scheffler and Mueller.
Dahmer took top honors in the Grand National Division – passing Brian Gilles (Plymouth) on lap eight and staying in front. A multi-car crash on the first lap sent a handful of cars to the pits for repairs.
Two of the damaged cars, driven by Tim Thompson (Campbellsport) and Timm Anderson (Sheboygan), both dropped out of the race a short time later.
Brian Goetsch (Sheboygan) ran third most of the race and finished ahead of Melissa Singer (Waldo) and Gary Glander (Sheboygan Falls). Mark Fieber (Cascade) and Abe Meinnert (Howards Grove) were running in the top five late in the race and then tangled – costing each a number of positions.
The B-main winner was Anderson. Heat wins went to Dahmer, Rick Hed (Sheboygan Falls), Steve Wirtz (Milwaukee) and Brian Kaat (Plymouth)
Meyer led every lap except one in the Outlaw Compact feature. Points leader Tim Simon (Fond du Lac) passed Meyer on lap 15 but Meyer regained the lead on the next lap.
Ken Odekirk (New Holstein) was third with J.J. Pagel (St. Cloud) fourth and Travis Arenz (Sheboygan) fifth.
