Sheboygan artist Keary Kautzer wins Dockside Quick Paint contest

The Peninsula School of Art in Fish Creek, Wisconsin invited 40 nationally and internationally recognized plein air artists from the United States and Canada to capture the incredible, diverse beauty of the Door County peninsula from July 20-25, 2009.

This third annual Door County Plein Air Festival is one of the largest plein air festivals of its kind in the Midwest. One event is the Dockside Quick Paint competition, which involves paintings completed in less than two hours to be auctioned off at Clark Park in Fish Creek. An estimated 1,000 people attended the auction.

During the Dockside Quick Paint, the 40 featured artists were joined by 100 artists from throughout the Midwest. This year Keary Kautzer, an artist from Sheboygan, won the 2009 Dockside Quick Paint. He will be invited to participate as one of the featured artists in the 2010 Door County Plein Air Festival.

Kautzer’s watercolor painting entitled Journeyman featured sailboats in the Fish Creek marina.
