Kathleen “Kay” Dixon

Kathleen “Kay” Dixon, age 94, formerly of Elkhart Lake Wis., passed away peacefully Tuesday Aug. 25, 2009, at Cedar Gardens Assisted Living in Cedarburg where she had been a resident the past three years.

Kay was born Oct. 15, 1914 in Milwaukee Wis., a daughter of the late Otto and Paulina (Osthoff) Just.

She graduated from Downer Prep School in Milwaukee.

On June 15, 1935, she married Floyd R. Dixon. They made their home in Elkhart Lake where they owned and operated the original Osthoff Hotel. Kay was in charge of the dining room and its operations.

She had been a member of the Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake, was a member of the church bible study group and taught bible study in her home.

Kay was active in the womens’ golf league at Quit Qui Oc Golf Course for most of her active life, had served as its president, and won numerous awards for her golfing expertise. She was also a member and past president of the Elkhart Lake Women’s Club.

Kay had been an active member of the Loyalty Chapter Order of the Eastern Star in Plymouth and had served as Worthy Matron. Kay was also one of the original promoters of Road America, selling tickets when it began in the early 1950s. Her loving husband preceded her in death March 12, 1995.

Kay loved nature, the out-of-doors, and was actively involved in the knowledge and love of bird watching.

Survivors include one daughter, Kandy (Tony) Skarvan of Cedarburg; her grandchildren, Troy (Tanya) Dixon, Eric Dixon, Kip (Helen) Butler, Kim (Mike) Jurkovac, Jeffrey (Kerry) Skarvan, Erik Skarvan and Brian Skarvan; and six great-grandchildren, as well as her very dear friend Joe Benauer of Elkhart Lake.

She was preceded in death by one son, Richard M. Dixon; one sister, Florence Weckerle; and one brother, Paul Otto Just.

Funeral services was held at noon, Monday, Aug. 31, at the Community United Church of Christ in Elkhart Lake. The Rev. Michael Safford-Kennedy, pastor of the church, officiated. Burial was in St. John Cemetery in the town of Rhine.
