Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice needs volunteers
The Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice will soon be celebrating the second anniversary of the opening of the hospice center. To meet the growing demands of both the community Home Hospice Program and the hospice center operation, it is expanding volunteer opportunities for those interested in patient care, light housekeeping and kitchen assistance.
A volunteer orientation program is being offered Monday, Oct. 5, from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the hospice center located at W2850 State 28 in Sheboygan Falls. Call to register for the initial volunteer training by Sept. 28 at 467-7945 – registration is limited to 25 individuals.
Patient care volunteers focus on supporting the care of both patients and their caregivers. Examples of this type of volunteer activity include visiting with patients, providing respite opportunities to caregivers who need time for themselves, or simple meal preparation.
Volunteers determine their level of involvement based on individual comfort and personal skills. Light housekeeping volunteers assist with cleaning (dusting, vaccuming, window cleaning in the public areas of the hospice center) – no heavy lifting is required. Kitchen volunteers will assist the cooks in dishwashing and dining room clean-up – no food preparation is involved.
Adults interested in these volunteer roles are encouraged to contact a volunteer coordinator (Luann Travis or Barb MacDonald) at 467-7945 or 467-7946.
