ROLLIN RUTHERFORD PETER

Rollin Rutherford Peter, age 88, formerly of N1865 Trout Spring Road, Adell, Wis., passed away late Thursday evening, Sept. 3, 2009, at the Beechwood Rest Home in Beechwood, Wis., where he had been a resident for the past three months. .

He was born on July 24, 1921, in the town of Scott, Wis., a son of the late Rutherford and Erma Saueressig Peter.

He attended Scott Center Grade School and Plymouth High School.

On June 19, 1948, he married Marjorie Melius at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia. The couple has resided in the town of Scott since their marriage.

Rollin farmed in the town of Scott.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia and served as an usher. Rollin was a member of the National Farmers Organization and Hill and Gulley Riders Snowmobile Club and he enjoyed being outdoors, especially snowmobiling.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marjorie of Adell; his children, Kathryn Tykac of West Bend, Wis., Dwight “Ike” Peter (his wife, Pam) of Cascade, Wis.; three grandchildren, Sara (Jason) Schmidt of Wayne Center, Wis., Stacy Gildersleeve of West Bend, Wis., and Amanda (Rob) DeVerney of the town of Scott, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Emerson E. Schmidt and Gabriel I. DeVerney; two brothers-in-law, George Maechtle of Waubeka, Wis., and Russell (Merley) Melius of the town of Scott; five sisters-inlaw, Hazel Nussbaumer of Plymouth, Dottie Reinhardt of Plymouth, Delphine Hartmann of Fredonia, Audrey Clyatt of Jeffersonville, Ind., LaMae (Walt) Hetzel of Beaumont, Calif.; and his good friend, Randy Link.

He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and other relatives and many friends.

He was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Viola and Albert Melius; and one grandson, Gabriel Peter.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Zion United Methodist Church in Batavia. The Rev. Gail Mitchell, pastor of the church, will officiate and inurnment will be in the parish cemetery.
