Tigers lose in OT on corner kick

HOWARDS GROVE – Jacob Wiskerchen’s goal on a corner kick three minutes into overtime gave Random Lake a 3-2 win over host Howards Grove here Thursday afternoon.

The Tigers fell to 1-2 in the Central Lakeshore Conference (2-5 overall).

The Rams tied the match at 2-2 in regulation on Quin Holeman’s goal with 18 minutes remaining. Holeman also scored on a penalty kick in the first half that put Random Lake on top 1-0.

Kyle Hansen and Duston Rabe kicked one goal apiece to give the Tigers a 2-1 halftime lead. Robert Betke assisted on Rabe’s goal and Rabe had the assist for Hansen.

“I thought we played our best game of soccer tonight and just got unlucky in the end,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.

“I am really proud of our effort and how we not only kept our heads in the game but maintained our composure and more importantly our sportsmanship.

“Our guys have nothing to hang their heads about. They did everything we asked them to do and just came up short,” Fischer said.

The Tigers led in shots on goal, 10-9. Howards goalkeeper Carter Rockhill was credited with five saves. The Rams’ Cory Schneider made eight saves.
