Sheriff’s Report – Sept. 10

Correction report:

An accident report that was published Sept. 1 in the Review was incorrect and should have read:

Two people were injured Aug. 24 in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of County V and County I in the town of Lima.

According to the accident report, at 4:40 p.m. Rebecca J. Stroschein, 28, of Sheboygan Falls, proceeded from the stop sign on County I and in front of an eastbound vehicle, driven by Bruce P. Warnecke, 58, of Cascade. Warnecke, who was also pulling a trailer, attempted evasive maneuvers to avoid hitting Stroschein, but did not have time and struck her vehicle on the passenger side.

Stroschein and her passenger, 4-year-old Owen Stroschein, were injured and taken to area hospitals.

At 11:38 a.m. Sept. 2, someone from the Haven Sports Bar and Grill, located at W1008 County FF in the town of Mosel, called the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department to report that their establishment had been broken into.

Someone entered the building by prying open a door. Four video gaming machines were damaged and had money removed from them. Damage to the machines was approximately $300 – the amount of cash removed from the machines is still undetermined.

This is the second break-in to a tavern where money was stolen from video games – the first occurred sometime between Aug. 30 and Aug. 31 at Corbin’s Hideaway in Howards Grove. A 9-mm handgun was reported stolen from a residence in Howards Grove Sept. 4.

The Smith and Wesson handgun could have been stolen anytime during the past month, according to the homeowner who just noticed it missing. There were no signs of forced entry into the home on Millersville Avenue.

Kim M. Wallander, 47, of Kiel, was injured Sept. 4 after her 2009 Harley-Davidson motorcycle experienced engine trouble, causing the rear tire to lock up. Wallander lost control on the gravel shoulder and was ejected from the motorcycle into the east ditch.

The accident happened on County J, just south of Sheboygan Road, in the town of Russell at 2:30 p.m.

Wallander was not wearing a helmet, only eye protection. Kiel Ambulance transported her to Calumet Medical Center for treatment. Elkhart Lake First Responders also assisted at the scene.

Thomas D. Benson, 48, of Adell, was ticketed for operating a vehicle while intoxicated – second offense, after crashing his motorcycle.

According to the accident report, at 11:05 p.m. Sept. 6, Benson was southbound on County K in the town of Sherman, when he attempted to turn his high-beam lamps on and was not paying attention to the road. Benson drove his motorcycle onto the gravel shoulder and continued off the road until coming to rest.

Benson suffered rib injuries, but could not remember if he was ejected when he received the injuries.

A residence in the town of Holland was broken into Sept. 6 after someone damaged the service door on the garage in order to enter the residence.

According to Capt. David Adams, the burglary was reported by Daniel R. Scholler, 22, at 1:30 p.m. after finding the damage to the door and then discovering that a 9-mm Model 85 Ruger handgun, valued at $500, was missing from inside the home.

There are no suspects at this time.

An attempted break-in occurred at the Sportsman Bar, located at 436 S. Main St. in Cedar Grove, Sept. 7 and was discovered shortly after.

According to Capt. David Adams, the bar was closed from 8:30-11 p.m. that night due to a bonfire taking place in the back. While the bar was closed and the employees and patrons were in the back, someone attempted to pry open the door, but were unsuccessful. The pry marks were noticed at 9:30 p.m. and the Sheriff’s Department was notified.

Over $63,000 in merchandise was stolen from a 16-foot storage trailer in Plymouth sometime between Sept. 5 and Sept. 8, when the theft was discovered.

Hans Rose, 62, reported to the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department Sept. 8 that he loaded up the trailer during the evening hours Sept. 5 – when he returned to the trailer, located at N6261 County E, he discovered the items missing.

Taken from the trailer were 50 Rainbow vacuums, valued at $650 each; 126 Oreck air cleaners, valued at $100 each; 100 Oreck XL Uprights, valued at $130 each; two boxes of LED Aluminum-cased flashlights – a $5,000 value; and two cases of Green Bay Packer golf balls – worth $500.

According to Detective Dave Obremski, Rose reported locking the trailer after he loaded it Saturday night – forced entry was used to enter the trailer and the lock was removed and missing.
