UW-Sheboygan students hold fundraiser for Emily Hughes memorial scholarship fund

The University of Wisconsin-Sheboygan Student Government Association, in conjunction with the staff of the campus student newspaper, The Voice, will hold a special brat fry on Saturday, Sept. 19 to benefit the new Emily Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The event, which will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the north-side Piggly Wiggly store, 2905 N. 15th St. in Sheboygan, will raise funds for the newly established Emily Hughes Memorial Scholarship Endowment created by the UW-Sheboygan Foundation. The fund will award a scholarship annually to an incoming UWSheboygan student starting with the 2010-11 academic year. The fund was established through an anonymous donation to the Foundation in August.

Hughes, who died in a tragic accident this past summer, was a student at the UW-Sheboygan campus throughout the 2008-09 academic year and was registered for classes this fall. She also served as a student photographer for The Voice newspaper. She was a graduate of Sheboygan Lutheran High School.

Student leaders on the campus and members of The Voice have pulled together to hold the benefit in order to raise additional funds to support the new endowment. Student volunteers will staff the brat fry station throughout the day, and will offer homemade baked goods for sale.
