ROGER COTTER

Roger William Cotter, age 82, of 524 West First St., Waldo, went home to be with his Lord surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009, after a long illness at St. Nicholas Hospital in Sheboygan.

He was born on Dec. 12, 1926, in the Red River Wisconsin area, son of the late William and Minnie (Sperberg) Cotter.

Roger entered the United States Army as an MP, serving in Puerto Rico from 1945-47.

He married Shirley Juers on Sept. 6, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adell. The couple made their home in Waldo all their 62 years of married life.

He worked for a few years at the Adell Foundry; worked for approximately a year on a road construction crew in the Milwaukee area; and retired from the Kohler Company in March of 1990 after 30 years of service. After his retirement, he spent 10 years working for the village of Waldo and enjoyed all his duties especially cutting the grass.

In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Milwaukee Brewers, and truly enjoyed carpentry work. One of his most beloved joys was traveling to his family’s cabin, which he built by hand, near Mountain where he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and time in the out-of-doors.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 62 years, Shirley of Waldo; three children, Robert (Donna) Cotter of Madison, Jean (Charles) Flunker of Waldo, and Ann Cotter of Waldo; four grandchildren, Chris (special friend Heather) Cotter of DeForest, Sean Cotter of Platteville, Richard Flunker of Plymouth, and Beth (fiancée John Knapp) Flunker of Waldo; a great-granddaughter, Evelyn Flunker of Plymouth; two sisters, Doris (John) Raymaker of Appleton and Lila Switzer of Shawano.

He was also preceded in death by a beloved grandson, Daniel Flunker; 12 siblings and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services were held on Monday evening, Sept. 14, at the Wittkopp-Schneider Funeral Home in Plymouth with the Rev. Richard Biddinger, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, officiating. The members of the Plymouth VFW World’s Cheese Center Post 5612 conducted full military rites. He was buried in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery in Cascade.
