Wisconsin’s Prescription Drug Helpline

By Pat Hafermann

Did you know that there is a helpline specifically for Medicare beneficiaries who need assistance or who have questions about their prescription drug coverage options? The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups maintains the Prescription Drug Helpline.

The Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups is a nonprofit advocacy organization that serves people age 60 and over. For more information about the coalition or to become a member, call (800) 366-2990 and ask for Member Services.

The helpline is staffed by two counselors who are experts in the drug coverage options available to Wisconsin’s Medicare beneficiaries, age 60 and over. Counselors can assist in comparing coverage, including Medicare Part D plans, Medicare Advantage plans with drug coverage, and SeniorCare. Additionally, counselors can provide individual assistance with coverage issues, enrollment problems, and plan selection. Counselors cannot recommend one coverage over another but can provide beneficiaries with a clear picture of what options are available to them.

The helpline operates on a call-back basis. Beneficiaries can call, leave a brief description of the assistance needed and their call-back information; and they will receive a return call from a counselor within a couple days. Return calls may take a little bit longer during the very busy Medicare enrollment season from Nov. 15 to Dec. 31.

Have questions about your drug coverage options? Need some help with a coverage issue? Call the Wisconsin Prescription Drug Helpline at (866) 456-8211.

If you have additional questions, you may call Pat Hafermann, elderly benefits specialist with the Aging and Disability Resource Center, at (920) 459-4389.
