ELKHART LAKE – New head coach Terri Huether is excited about directing the Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah girls volleyball team the season.
The Resorters return nine of their 12 varsity players from last year as they look to improve throughout the season. All nine returnees were letter winners last season. Elkhart is coming off a rough 2007 season with an eighth-place finish in the Central Lakeshore Conference overall standings.
Huether coached the Sheboygan Christian freshman volleyball team for five years and about eight years in club volleyball. She played the sport at Howards Grove High School and UW-Sheboygan.
“I feel that this was a good opportunity for me to step up from my previous coaching position. I am excited to be working with a new group of girls with new challenges,” Huether said.
“To have the girls work together as a team, have good communication and to improve with each match,” said Huether referring to her expectations this season.
Huether pointed out the keys to turning the program around and improving over recent years.
“I believe that some of the keys to help turn the program around will be to have the similar coaching philosophies at the junior varsity and varsity levels,” she said.
Huether is looking for solid leadership from the seniors and for the underclassmen to step up and play some big roles.
The coach noted the team’s strong points.
“We have a nice mix of upper classmen and underclassmen. I'm looking for the girls to continue to develop their volleyball skills and use the team chemistry to be successful,” she said.
Huether’s main goal is for her players to develop their volleyball skills.
She picks Sheboygan Lutheran to be a top contender for the CLC title. The Crusaders return two allleague first-team players from last season in Casey Hasenstein and Stephanie Cox.
Lutheran finished second in the CLC tournament last year. Sheboygan Christian is the defending tourney and overall league champion.
