Falcons blank Kiel, Kewaunee

The Sheboygan Falls girls tennis team posted its fourth straight sweep and sixth shutout of the season, while improving to 4-2 in the Eastern Wisconsin Conference (10-2 overall) last week.
Falls blanked the Kiel Raiders 7-0 Thursday, Sept. 17, and crushed the Kewaunee Indians 7-0 Tuesday, Sept. 15.
“Our doubles teams gave up only three games against Kewaunee,” said Falcons coach Sandy Cherveny. “We are getting stronger with the girls being a great compliment to each other.”
The Falcons No. 2 doubles team of Lilly Rotter and Erika Krueger didn’t give up a game against Kewaunee, while No. 4 singles player Kelly Jo Hoffman also came up with a two-set sweep.
“Hoffman had a great week,” remarked Cherveny. “She was patient and prevailed.
“Rotter and Krueger were dominant, but our other doubles players were just as good,” she said.
Marissa Bartel (No. 1 singles) and MacKenzie Schnell (2) downed their Kiel opponents easily with twoset wins, while Falls No. 3 singles player Jamie Kelling came back strong to win her match in three sets.
“Our No.1 and No. 2 singles players got us off to a nice start against Kiel,” Cherveny said.
