Leslie A. Tanin,
51, N6248W County A, Glenbeulah. $135, 30 months’ local jail, three years’ probation, and six-month driver’s license suspension for felony manufacture/deliver marijuana. Firefighters responded to a house fire at N6254W County A in the town of Glenbeulah at about 11:12 p.m. Dec. 16, 2008. After the fire was extinguished, the fire investigation unit began conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire when they came into an area where marijuana plants were growing. The area was in the basement and was described as a makeshift boarded-up room containing well over 100 marijuana plants. The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the findings and a search warrant was obtained. Two buildings stand on the property – the residence of Tanin, N6248W County A, and a separate residence of N6254W County A where the fire took place and burned almost everything but the basement where the marijuana was located. The investigators were told of how the homeowner, Tanin, and a 55- year-old male exited her residence shortly after the fire department arrived and asked if they could leave so that they could remove their dog because it was getting worked up. By the time the Sheriff’s Department arrived at approximately 3:30 a.m., the two had not returned. A search warrant was executed, and detectives found the basement divided off into four rooms – each divided with plywood into two smaller rooms. The rooms contained marijuana plants, large circular ceiling lamp fixtures with special bulbs used for growing marijuana, an electric ventilation fan, thermostats, barometer, and dehumidifier. An exhaust system was run through the ductwork and through garbage cans – possibly for cooling the heat and reducing odor before being discharged up the chimney. Officers seized a total of 371 marijuana plants. Tanin and the male later arrived at the scene and were arrested.

On March 20, 2009, the West Bend Police Department took a report of a sexual assault that occurred in Adell in June of 2007. Short had sexual contact with a girl, who was 11 years old at the time that the three assaults took place. According to the criminal complaint, on one occasion, Short had gone for a walk with the girl through the woods. They were in a secluded location when he assaulted her. Short admitted to investigators that he is drawn to child pornography and that is what gave him the idea of touching the victim.
