Falls decorates the downtown for fall
Historic downtown Sheboygan Falls is alive once again with the colors of fall, thanks to the efforts of the Sheboygan Falls Main Street Design and Promotion Committees.
Volunteers recently adorned more than 30 lampposts with corn stalks and welcoming scarecrows, along Broadway, Pine and Monroe streets.
The cost of the decorations was covered through funds raised at the 2009 Sheboygan Falls Chamber- Main Street Spring Golf Outing, held in May at The Bull.
“A special thank you goes out to John and Mary Jo Widder, who generously donated all of the corn stalks, and to Jim and Shirl Breunig, who coordinated the harvest of decorations,” Sheboygan Falls Chamber-Main Street Executive Director Nancy Verstrate said.
The volunteer crew included Dorothy Schueffner, Chris Tempas, John Rietz, Schel Kidd and Diane Krostag, who decorated lamp poles and the entrances to the city.
“The response to the fall decorations for the downtown was nothing short of tremendous,” Verstrate said. “We received so many wonderful comments on the downtown being dressed for fall.”
The Chamber-Main Street organization is asking city residents to assist in controlling possible vandalism.
“There remains the ever-present concern for vandalism,” Chamber-Main Street Program Coordinator Shirl Breunig said. “We are asking for the community’s help in protecting the scarecrows.
“Please let us know if you see anyone abusing these cheery decorations, so the program isn’t put in jeopardy by the actions of a few,” she said. “We also are in critical need of more volunteers to help put up decorations, like these, as well as the beautiful flowering planters that add so much to the historic districts.”
Verstrate is thankful for the dedicated support of many volunteers.
“The level of volunteer commitment should be appreciated by the entire community and visitors alike, who enjoy these welcome reminders of fall,” said Verstrate. “The volunteers of Sheboygan Falls Chamber- Main Street continue to amaze us with their dedication to these beautification projects.”
