Roadwork continues on I-43, County O
The Wisconsin Department of Transportation regional office in Green Bay is providing an update on road construction in Sheboygan County.
On Interstate 43, structure work will continue this week on the Pebble Beach Road and Amsterdam Road bridges, both in the northbound lanes of I-43. Toward the end of the week, there should be a traffic switch, with work beginning on the second half of both structures.
Asphalt paving will continue with the surface course being paved in both northbound lanes of I-43 from Wilson Lima Road to State 42. Nighttime work will resume on Monday night on the ramps of the I-43 and State 23 interchange. Ramps will be closed from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. throughout the week. Exact ramps to be closed will be displayed on changeable message boards on the project, and in the press as well as possible. Both Type I and Type II sign installation will continue.
The $160 million project on I-43 from the south county line to State 42 involves bridge deck repair and overlay, asphaltic surface milling, hot mix asphalt pavement, beam guard, concrete base patching, ramp closure gates, law enforcement pads, and all incidentals to complete the project. It is scheduled for completion July 16, 2010.
I-43 will have one lane closed in the northbound lanes from 6 a.m. Monday to 12 midnight Friday. This closure will be for 5 miles at a time, with the closure starting on the south half of the project and as they progress to the north, moving to the north half of the project.
The I-43 and State 23 interchange will have ramp closures over night (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) throughout the week (Monday through Friday), beginning this week. Changeable message boards are being utilized to inform the motoring public in advance when ramps are to be closed.
Crews on County O will continue stripping topsoil, removing asphalt and begin grading and base course placement near 68th Street this week.
The 1.3-mile, $1.1 million project, scheduled for completion in November, involves grading, base aggregate, storm sewer, asphalt paving, pavement marking, and incidentals to complete the work. County O will be closed to through traffic during construction. A detour is currently posted using State 32, State 23 and County Y.
