Structure fire Sept. 26

Saturday, Sept. 26, at approximately 1:40 a.m., the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department received information from a 911 caller indicating that there was heavy smoke coming from an apartment located above the Paddock Club at 61 S. Lake St. in the village of Elkhart Lake. Elkhart Lake is located in the northwestern part of Sheboygan County.

The first arriving Elkhart Lake police officers reported that heavy smoke was coming from the structure. A short time later flames were observed emanating from the upstairs window.

Elkhart Lake Fire Department was dispatched to the scene as well as fire departments from the city of Plymouth, town of Plymouth, town of Greenbush, village of Glenbeulah and the village of Kiel. The first responders from the village of Elkhart Lake and the village of Glenbeulah were also dispatched.

The lone occupant of the upper apartment was able to exit the structure along with his dog and escaped without any injury. The monetary loss is not known at this time; however, the apartment sustained heavy damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Sheboygan County Fire Investigation Team. No firefighters were injured fighting the blaze.
