Response

To the Editor:

As the pastor of Redeemer, the ELCA church in town, I feel a need to respond to the letter from the pastors of St. John Lutheran Church. Pastor Nathan Meador respectfully showed me the letter before it went in to the paper. I was not blindsided by it. I understand his concerns and respect them.

In response let me simply say, we are a congregation that loves the Scriptures and are glad to call the Bible God's word and our norm for faith and life. Jesus Christ is the head of our church, not bishops, assemblies or even me as the pastor. We follow Jesus.

Our mission as a congregation is to grow the faith of people by sharing God's truth and love. This is a reflection of the great commission by Christ to “Go make disciples.” Discipleship calls us to recognize that none of us is perfect. We are all in need of God's gracious forgiveness and are called to follow Christ.
Jim Wilson, pastor of
