Kohler blanks Tigers in CLC soccer

Kohler outshot the Howards Grove Tigers 17-5 on the way to a 4-0 Central Lakeshore Conference boys soccer win Sept. 21 at Kohler.

Shawn Vroom and Kevin Beine scored one goal each off corner kicks. Austin Van Treeck and Frank Marzano booted the other goals for the defending CLC champions.

“Kohler continues to have a talented group of individuals who work together as a team. We need to continue our work on defending corner kicks and to cover on defense,” said Tiger head coach Todd Fischer.

“I thought we played a much better game against Kohler this second time but just couldn’t put together some effective runs.”

The Blue Bombers routed Howards, 5-1, early in the season.

FALCON INVITE

The Tigers played in the Falcon Invitational Sept. 19 at Sheboygan Falls. Howards was scheduled to be in the St. Mary’s Central Invitational at Neenah that day but opted to compete at Falls.

Howards finished 0-2-1 in the four-team, round-robin tournament. The host Falcons won the championship with a 3-0 mark.

The Tigers lost to Falls, 1-0. Nathan Brown scored the game-winning goal, assisted by Dan Duda. The Falcons led in shots, 8-4.

Howards lost to Green Bay East, 2-0, and tied Freedom, 1-1. Duston Rabe converted a penalty kick for the Tigers’ goal versus Freedom. Freedom scored on an own goal on Howards.

“Overall, this was a good tournament. We played well and had a good time,” said Fischer. “Our boys seemed to be much more relaxed and enjoyed their time on the field. We got some good looks at some bench personnel and were able to rest some starters with injuries.”
