Aurora earns accreditation in breast ultrasound
The Woman’s Health Department at Aurora Sheboygan Clinic has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in breast ultrasound as a result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology (ARC).
A breast ultrasound uses sound waves to make a picture of the tissues inside the breast. The test can be used to see whether a breast lump is filled with fluid (a cyst) or if it is a solid lump. An ultrasound does not replace the need for a mammogram, but it is often used to check abnormal results from a mammogram.
The ACR grants its accreditation to facilities that achievement high practice standards. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists conduct the evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the facility’s equipment. Aurora Sheboygan Clinic received high marks in all areas.
