ROBERT G. ATKINSON
Robert G. Atkinson, age 69, of 724 Indian Grass Court, Plymouth, Wis., passed away early Thursday afternoon, Oct. 1, 2009, at Sharon S. Richardson Hospice in Sheboygan Falls after a courageous and hardfought battle against cancer.
Robert was born Dec. 1, 1939 in Oxford, Wis., a son of the late Gerald Atkinson and living Carolyn Treadway Atkinson. He attended Oxford Grade School and graduated from Oxford High School in 1957.
He attended Madison Business College and graduated with an accounting degree.
On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Mary Ann Stivarius in Montfort, Wis. The couple lived in Madison for eight years, Baraboo for five years and since 1977 in Plymouth.
Robert served in the Air National Guard from 1959-65.
He worked at Rayovac Co. in Madison, Equity Co-op in Baraboo, and from 1977 until his retirement in 2005 at Mayline Co. in Sheboygan.
He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth.
Robert enjoyed collecting miniature farm sets, doing yard work and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Plymouth; one daughter, Kristi (Greg) Olson of McDonough, Ga.; one son, Greg (Becky) Atkinson of Fort Bliss, Texas in El Paso; three grandchildren, Lauren and Nolan Olson and Vincent Atkinson; his mother, Carolyn Atkinson of Oxford; one sister, Shirley Ann (Glen) Wood of Wisconsin Dells; three sisters-in-law, Joan (Herbert) Nicholls of Green Lake, Wis.; Delores (Gerald) Udelhoven of Fennimore, Wis., and Gladys (Gerald) O’Brein of Fennimore, Wis.; and also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
He was also preceded in death by one brother-in-law, LaVerne Stivarius and one sister-in-law, Mary Stivarius.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Plymouth preceded by family rites at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth at 11 a.m. Father Dennis Van Beek, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Visitation was held at the Suchon Funeral Home in Plymouth until 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of family rites.
