Learn how you can help stop bullying
Want to help your children recognize and stop bullying and harassment?
The Riverview Association of Parents and Teachers (RAPT) is bringing Jim Jelinske of Creative Education Services in Dubuque, Iowa, to speak to students, faculty and parents about bullying.
Jelinske’s presentation to parents, “Preventing Bullying and Harassing,” will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at Riverview Middle School Auditorium.
His goal is to increase awareness of what harassment is and teaching positive responses to bullying.
Bullying is an important topic for all parents to learn more about, according to Jelinske. One in six students were seriously traumatized by peers in school, according to the National Center for Educational Statistics. Ten percent of students drop out of school because of repeated bullying, according to the National School Safety Center.
Jelinske says bullying can be significantly reduced in schools if teachers, support staff, parents and, most importantly, students join together to take action against this form of harassment.
