Howards Grove Wins Central Lakeshore Conference

The Howards Grove Tigers won their third straight Central Lakeshore Conference girls volleyball match Thursday night with a 25-7, 25-6, 25-6 sweep against visiting Elkhart Lake-Glenbeulah.

Howards raised their CLC record to 5-2. The Resorters dropped to 0-7 in league play.

“We never lost concentration. We stayed focused and sharp all night,” said Tiger head coach Brett Damrow.

“It was nice that everyone played well and everyone got chance to play in front of a homecoming crowd.”

Senior Kasey Latham led the Tigers in assists with 18 and digs, six. Sophomore Brianna Morgen and freshman Haley Rickmeier had a team-high four spike kills each. Morgen also had five digs. Rickmeier led in blocks with two.

Senior Christina Waters paced the Resorters in kills with two. Junior Katie Starnitcky had a team-high five digs. Junior Abbey Neils led in blocks with one.

“During the first set of the match, we had probably the best serve receive all year for us,” said Resorter head coach Terri Huether.

“The girls did a good job of adjusting to lineup changes during the course of the match.” KOHLER MATCH

The Resorters lost at home to Kohler, 7-25, 8-25, 13-25 in CLC action Sept. 29.

Rachel Knowles led Elkhart in kills with two. Beth Merten and Katelyn Winkel were first in digs with four each. Morgan Voigtlander had a team-best three assists.

“We are continuing to work towards better serve receive. The girls are doing a better job of trying to get to their defensive spots,” Huether said.
