Tigers earn second in CLC tourney
OOSTBURG – The Howards Grove Tigers tied for second in the Central Lakeshore Conference Girls Volleyball Tournament, held here Thursday and Saturday.
Howards and Ozaukee posted 7-2 match records. The Tigers finished second overall in the CLC with a 14-4 mark that included the regular dual season and the tourney.
Oostburg won the tournament with a 9-0 record and the overall championship at 18-0. The Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah Resorters finished ninth in the tourney at 1-8 and shared last in the overall race with Stockbridge at 1-17.
“I’m very proud of the way this team has fought the last couple of weeks,” said Tiger head coach Brett Damrow.
“I was really proud of our leadership on Saturday. We also changed up a couple of things for Alexis Lindstrom which allowed her to start opening things up for our outside hitters.
Damrow was very pleased with his team’s showing in the tournament and overall CLC season.
Ali Benning paced the Tigers in spike kills in the tourney with 49 and ace serves, nine. Kasey Latham had a team-high 92 digs and 221 assists. Lindstrom led in blocks with 12.
Elkhart’s leaders included: assists – Beth Merten, 29; digs – Merten and Katelyn Winkel, 32 each; spike kills – Rachel Knowles, 14; ace serves – Winkel, nine; and blocks – Katie Starnitcky, five.
“The girls are continuing to improve with each match. The conference tournament was a nice way for us to get prepared for the WIAA playoffs,” said Resorter head coach Terri Huether.
