LaCrosse, Bartel pace Falls runners

PLYMOUTH – Sheboygan Falls Falcons cross country runners junior Lucas LaCrosse and sophomore Nicole Bartel earned second team All-Eastern Wisconsin Conference accolades at the EWC Cross Country Meet Saturday, Oct. 17, at Plymouth.
LaCrosse came in ninth overall to lead the Falcon boys squad to a sixth-place finish. Bartel finished 14th and guided the Falcons girls unit to a sixth-place finish.
The Plymouth Panthers swept both the boys and girls division titles to take the overall EWC championship.
“I felt our team raced real well,” said Falcons coach Tiffany Otte. “LaCrosse is running strong at this point in the season, and that is when you want to peak.
“Bartel has worked hard to bring her times down,” she said. “She was very determined and focused.”
Otte noted that other Falls runners have improved their personal bests, including junior Chase Schultz (27th), who has had a very good season. She also noted that sophomore Stephanie Kleckner (20th) has been consistently strong all season.
Falcons’ freshman Matt Carstens finished sixth in the junior varsity race to qualify on the first team.
“It was such a blessing to have coached these great young athletes,” stated Otte. “It will be fun to see all of them come back next year. There is a lot of potential.”
Matt Scott of Kiel won the boys division race and Niki Rhyan of Plymouth took top honors in the girls individual competition.
Falls will travel to Mayville Saturday, Oct. 24, for the WIAA Division 2 Sectional Meet. CROSS COUNTRY
