Family caregiver conference Nov. 12

The Alzheimer’s Association and the Dementia Care Network of Sheboygan County will host a family caregiver conference Thursday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 730 County PPP, Sheboygan Falls.

The focus of this conference is on the importance of exercise, good nutrition and a healthy outlook for the caregiver, and is an excellent opportunity to learn more about topics related to caring for someone who has a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other related memory disorder. The conference is open to the public.

Sessions will include a research update on Alzheimer’s disease, information on exercise and nutrition for the caregiver, behaviors and communication strategies, changes to the family dynamic – with a special focus on children – as a result of Alzheimer’s disease, and how laughter can have positive impact on daily life for all.

The registration fee is $5, which includes lunch and materials. For information and to register, contact Ginny Nyhuis of the Alzheimer’s Association at (920) 838-1311 or ginny.nyhuis@alz.org. For those who may require someone to watch after their loved one while attending the conference, there is in-home care available. Contact Krista Scheel at (414) 479-8800.
