H1N1 Nasal Mist Vaccine Clinic this Thursday at SHS
The Division of Public Health will be holding an H1N1 vaccination clinic at Sheboygan South High School, 3128 S. 12th St., this Thursday, Oct. 29, from 3-8 p.m. This clinic will be offering the H1N1 vaccine in nasal mist form.
The focus of this clinic is to provide vaccine to those in the following targeted groups:
• Healthcare workers/Emergency Medical Services personnel who are under 50 and do not have underlying health conditions.
• Persons under 50 without underlying conditions who live with/care for an infant less than 6 months of age. This includes Daycare staff that tends to infants less than 6 months.
• Anyone between the ages of 2 and 24 without underlying conditions.
The nasal mist form of H1N1 vaccine is not right for everyone. Some of the conditions that would exclude individuals from this vaccine are pregnancy, asthma, diabetes, blood disorders, kidney and liver disease, heart and lung conditions, immune system problems, children under 18 who take long-term aspirin therapy and those with a history of an egg allergy or a severe reaction to seasonal flu vaccine.
Those who received seasonal Flumist, MMR or Chicken Pox vaccine in the past month also are not eligible for this clinic. It is only available to those 2-49 years of age.
The vaccine will be provided free of charge and is subject to availability. Children under 18 will need parental consent. Those interested in attending should use the Washington Avenue entrance to the South High Commons Area.
The H1N1 nasal mist vaccine shows a similar safety and efficacy profile as seasonal Flumist. More H1N1 vaccine and clinic information can be found by calling 211 or visiting www.co.sheboy gan.wi.us/clinics.htm.
